About
For 150 years, Luden's has outfitted the outdoor enthusiast and celebrated the marine life of Charleston.
A Charleston Tradition
The company's official records were destroyed in the hurricane of 1911, but the Luden Co. was established in 1867 on Easy Bay street.
In a time when windjammers still ferried in and out of Charleston Harbor, J.J. W. Luden was a venerable ship's chandler, supplying everything from groceries, medicines and clothing to yachts and cargo ships.
Ever a reminder of the port's early history, Luden's was still replete with old rigging items and the smell of tar and pitch a century later.
The inventory evolved into a more modern selection for boating, hunting and fishing needs, but the company remained a place that celebrated the spirit of the lowcountry, and the trusted outfitter of the outdoor enthusiast.
